Can you imagine that night on the hill
As shepherds were watching, peaceful and still
Not being aware that Christ had come down
And lay in a manger in Bethlehem’s town.
Can you imagine that angel of light
Veiling his brilliance to fly through the night
The Father had bidden him tell of the birth
For God, as a baby, was born on the earth.
Can you imagine the shepherds’ great fright
As suddenly round them shone heavenly light
The Angel said calmly as he drew so near,
“Glad tidings I bring you, there’s no need fear.”
Can you imagine their joy at the news
That Jesus, the Saviour was born of the Jews.
What awe, what delight as the skies set ablaze
And heavenly music I’m sure did amaze.
For never before and never again
Has such a display been witnessed by men
Then just as before the air became still
And left them in wonder right there on the hill.
But can you imagine their haste as they sped
To see for themselves what the angel had said.
Yes, there in the manger lay the Baby, the King
They couldn’t imagine so glorious a thing.
Can you imagine what the Father has done
To send to this world His own precious Son
To live among men and die in our place
To show His great love for the whole human race.
All glory to him as the angels did sing
Let’s praise our Redeemer, our Saviour and King.
We cannot imagine a love so divine,
But thanks be to God, His love has won mine.
